Set up a Solana development environment

Install the toolchain

The Solana docs keep a one-line installer that sets up Rust, the Solana CLI, Anchor (through AVM), Node.js and Yarn. Follow the current command on the official installation page, not a copied snippet, because versions change.

Verify

Check each tool reports a version:

rustc --version
solana --version
anchor --version
node --version

Point the CLI at a cluster

Use localnet or devnet while learning. Create a filesystem keypair for development only and never reuse it on mainnet.

solana config set --url devnet
solana-keygen new
solana airdrop 2

Learn from real projects

Browse the Explore page, filter to Anchor or Rust, and open a project's fork to see a working layout.

Commands and APIs change, so the official Solana docs and Anchor docs are the source of truth.
