Understanding AI-node heat, noise and cooling

Every watt into a node becomes heat in the room. Planning for it early avoids throttled hardware and unusable spaces.

Thermal planning is the most commonly skipped step in a first node build. A sustained few hundred watts in a small unventilated cupboard will raise temperatures enough to trigger throttling, which quietly destroys your performance assumptions.

Consider intake and exhaust paths, ambient temperature range across the year, dust, and whether the space is occupied. Noise matters in studios, classrooms and offices — fan curves tuned for a data hall are unacceptable next to a desk.

Log inlet temperature alongside power draw. Correlating thermal events with workload and time of day usually explains inconsistent throughput.
