Battery storage for local compute

Storage shifts energy in time. It does not create seasonal generation. What that means when you size a battery around a node.

Battery storage lets you use generation that would otherwise be exported, and lets a node continue on stored energy after generation falls away. Both are useful. Neither increases how much energy your array produces across a winter.

When sizing storage around compute, separate the reserve you hold for resilience from the capacity you cycle daily. A node that draws a few hundred watts continuously consumes a meaningful share of a small domestic battery overnight, which competes directly with other site loads.

Round-trip efficiency, depth-of-discharge limits, temperature behaviour and warranty cycle counts all affect what you actually get to use. Treat headline capacity as an upper bound.

Battery and inverter installation, protection and grid interaction must be designed and commissioned by appropriately competent professionals.
