Where the boundary sits between what a builder can safely assemble and what must be designed and signed off by qualified professionals.
Assembling compute hardware, configuring software, and reading energy data from approved interfaces are activities a competent builder can reasonably undertake.
Design, installation, alteration, protection and commissioning of grid-connected solar arrays, inverters, battery systems and the fixed wiring they connect to are not. These require appropriately qualified and, where applicable, registered professionals, and are subject to local regulation, notification and grid-connection requirements.
Structural loading, fire safety, isolation, earthing, labelling, and documentation all form part of a compliant installation.
